Cultural management and supporting the development of cultural personnel.
Project name: Managing museums as service organizations
Museums are service organizations. They do not exist for themselves, but they primarily serve society. Hence they should be managed taking into account their service character. The service perspective can enrich the understanding of these organizations. Museum employees are not always aware of belonging to a service organization providing public services. The research project will focus first and foremost on museum employees, people who can contribute to the efficient management of the museum. The project will be primarily of application nature. Its main objectives will be to diagnose the state of the art of management among Polish museums (including museum directors), and to identify barriers to the implementation of the service model of museum management. Consequently, solutions will be proposed to facilitate the introduction of this beneficial model into museum reality. It is planned to carry out qualitative research using grounded theory methodology among Polish museums.
